In April 2019, in the Netherlands — AMI’s birthplace — the 90th anniversary celebration gathered representatives from across continents, united in their mission to transform the way we educate children through the Montessori approach.
Representing Vietnam, Ms. Trần Thanh Hiền, Director of Montessori Vietnam Education (MVEC) and AMI Community Liaison and Researcher, had the honor of attending this significant event.
In a warm and dignified atmosphere, distinguished educators and leaders such as Mr. Tim Nee — Director of the Montessori Training Center of Northeast (MTCNE, USA) — and Ms. Ginni Sackett, AMI Director of Training, joined Ms. Hiền in capturing memorable moments. These images symbolize collaboration, shared purpose, and a strong commitment to bringing Montessori education to every corner of the world.
Over the past nine decades, AMI has not only preserved Maria Montessori’s original vision but also continuously evolved to meet the needs of a changing world. Its remarkable achievements include:
Developing internationally recognized Montessori teacher training programs in many countries.
Establishing thousands of Montessori learning environments where children are respected, loved, and encouraged to reach their natural potential.
Partnering with governments and educational organizations to bring Montessori principles into public education, making human-centered learning accessible to more children.
These successes stand as a testament to the strength of the global Montessori community — united, resilient, and unwavering in its belief that children are the heart of education.
The presence of delegations from Vietnam and Thailand at the celebration was not only a source of pride but also a reflection of the growing influence of Montessori education across Southeast Asia. The event offered a valuable opportunity for regional educators to learn from international peers and bring authentic Montessori values home to their local communities.
The 90th anniversary was more than a moment of reflection — it was a global call to continue the mission that Maria Montessori began. In a world of constant change, AMI remains committed to spreading the Montessori spirit — an education built on love, respect, and faith in the limitless potential of every child.
Ninety years mark an inspiring journey — one that proves education is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but an act of understanding, compassion, and trust in each child’s innate capacity to grow. With the collective strength of a worldwide community, Montessori continues to shape a future where children remain at the center of all that is good.
Let us keep writing new chapters in the Montessori story — a story of perseverance, creativity, and hope for a more humane world.
