This is a valuable opportunity for you to acquire profound knowledge, refined pedagogical skills, and especially love and respect for children in the true Montessori spirit. The course will equip you with a solid foundation to create an inspiring educational environment where every child is free to explore, develop comprehensively, and fully unlock their inherent potential.

I. Overview of the Montessori Program for Children Aged 6-12 (Elementary Stage)

Based on information from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and reputable sources on this method, the Montessori program for children aged 6 to 12 (also known as the Elementary stage or Second Plane of Development) has the following prominent general characteristics:

1. Characteristics of Children Aged 6-12 (Second Plane of Development): This is a stage where children undergo significant psycho-physiological changes, characterized by:

  • Reasoning and Abstract Intellect: Children begin to develop the ability to reason, think abstractly, and possess a rich imagination. They no longer merely absorb information concretely but start to ask "why" and seek connections between things and phenomena.
  • Need to Explore the Wider World: Children have an intense "thirst" for knowledge, wanting to learn about the universe, the origin of life, human history, and how the world operates.
  • Strong Moral and Social Development: Children at this age are very concerned with fairness, right, and wrong. They begin to form a strong sense of community, enjoy working in groups, collaborating, and desiring to contribute to society.
  • Abundant Energy for Research and Exploration: Children have the ability to focus intently on subjects of interest to them and are willing to invest time and effort to self-discover and research.

2. Learning Environment and Materials:

  • Prepared Environment: The classroom is designed to stimulate imagination and support children's developmental needs. It is not limited to four walls but extends to the outside world.
  • Mixed-Age Classroom: Typically includes children aged 6-9 and 9-12, or the entire 6-12 age group. This provides opportunities for older children to help younger ones, and younger children to learn from older ones, promoting cooperation and social skill development.
  • Specialized Materials: Montessori materials at this stage help children transition from concrete to abstract thinking. They are not limited to individual lessons but are often interconnected, helping children see the bigger picture.
  • "Going Out": This is an important part of the program. Children plan and organize field trips to libraries, museums, science centers, factories, botanical gardens, etc., to acquire knowledge from community resources, connecting in-class learning with real life.

3. Curriculum - Cosmic Education: This is the core of the AMI Montessori Elementary program.

  • Objective: To help children understand the universe, humanity's place within it, and the interconnectedness of all things. The program not only provides knowledge but also inspires gratitude, respect for life, and responsibility towards the world.
  • The Five Great Lessons: These are narrative stories that use visual language and impressive experiments to introduce children to:
    1. The formation of the Universe and Earth.
    2. The advent of Life on Earth.
    3. The coming of Humans.
    4. The Story of Writing (The History of Communication in Signs).
    5. The Story of Numbers (The History of Mathematics).
  • Interdisciplinary Integration: From the Five Great Lessons, learning areas such as history, geography, biology, science, language, mathematics, art, and music are introduced in an integrated manner, helping children see the relationships and interdependence between different fields of science and life. Children are encouraged to freely choose in-depth research projects based on their interests.

4. Role of the Teacher (Guide):

  • Is a storyteller, inspiring and stimulating children's curiosity.
  • Introduces lessons and materials, then observes and supports children as they work and explore independently.
  • Connects children with learning resources both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Fosters a respectful, cooperative classroom environment that supports the holistic development of each individual.

5. Program Goals:

  • Nurture a lifelong love of learning.
  • Develop independent thinking, critical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Build a strong foundation of knowledge about the world.
  • Promote social, emotional, and moral development.
  • Encourage children to become responsible, cooperative individuals who wish to contribute positively to the community and the world.

The AMI Montessori program for children aged 6-12 years focuses not only on imparting academic knowledge but also on nurturing the spirit, developing character, and helping children realize their limitless potential and their role in the grand scheme of the universe.

        Sincerely,

                                            MONTESSORI VIETNAM EDUCATION (MVEC)
